Technocamps micro:bit Resources Launch Event | South East Wales

February 27 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

To support the BBC and micro:bit Foundation’s new micro:bit – the next gen campaign, Technocamps are hosting professional learning events for primary school teachers across Wales during February and March.
These events are supported by the BBC, micro:bit Foundation and Hwb with the ambition to support practitioners across Wales to further enhance their delivery of Curriculum for Wales utilising micro:bits.

During this interactive session, teachers will explore the versatile world of the micro:bit, gaining comprehensive insights into its features and applications across the curriculum for Wales.

These training events will run from 9am-3pm and will take place in 3 separate locations across Wales:

  • 20th February – South West Wales – Swansea University
  • 27th February – South East Wales – Cardiff University, Abacws Building
  • 6th March – North Wales – Conwy Business Centre

More information on venues will be emailed out closer to the date.

The event will start with an overview of the micro:bit features and components and how to program them with MakeCode. This will include a breakdown of the variety of sensors and inputs with suggestions for how the micro:bit’s capabilities may be used for small and large projects within the classroom. In the second half of the session we will get hands-on, building an assortment of micro:bit projects that cover the full breadth of the Curriculum for Wales.

By the end of this physical event, teachers will leave with a deeper understanding of the micro:bit’s capabilities and how to integrate them seamlessly into their lessons. The practical projects offered will empower educators to inspire and engage students across a spectrum of subjects, fostering a dynamic and interactive learning environment.

As part of the BBC micro:bit – the next gen campaign, primary school pupils can get involved in a large-scale playground survey during the summer term. Children will use the BBC micro:bit to investigate the size, biodiversity, temperature and pupil activity levels in their school playground. The survey activities will introduce pupils aged 7-11 to machine learning and working with digital data. The BBC micro:bit – the next gen team will talk you through the exciting resources available and how you can support pupils to become data scientists in their very own playground.

Spaces are limited so we would also ask that initially only one practitioner from a school registers to allow this training to reach as many schools across Wales as possible.
