What is Technocamps?

Technocamps is a wide-reaching digital programme. Our main goal is to support digital upskilling across Wales through our strong partnerships with all Welsh universities. Our programmes are all free to the recipient, as they are fully-funded by the Welsh Government and HEFCW. They are facilitated by the commitment of Welsh universities working collaboratively.

In the classroom:
Our ultimate goal is increasing young people’s engagement with STEM subjects. We work with secondary schools through our STEM Enrichment programme and primary schools through our Playground Computing programme. We also provide training and professional development for teachers to prepare them for the challenges of delivering in a technical and dynamic environment.

Beyond the classroom:
Our commitment to computing education extends beyond the school environment. We provide digital upskilling opportunities to people in employment and opportunities for lifelong learning. Our fully-funded Degree Apprenticeship programme offers the chance to ‘earn and learn’ by working towards a degree while in full-time employment. We also work with businesses and industry to create opportunities to ensure the digital pipeline is generated locally, helping to provide high quality jobs and support the Welsh economy.

Governance

Technocamps is a Programme of activities with its headquarters based in Swansea University. Swansea University is the lead partner for the Technocamps Programme. Swansea University received its Royal Charter in 1920 and, like many universities, is governed by its constitution that is set out in its statutes and Charter (Company No. 000639). It also holds charitable status and is registered as charity No. 1138342.

The governing body of Swansea University is its Council, which is supported by the Senate and the Court.

The Council consists of 29 members including the Chancellor, Pro-Chancellors, Vice-Chancellor, Treasurer, Pro-Vice-Chancellors, staff and student members, city council representation and a majority of lay members.

The Council is responsible for all the University’s activities and has a well developed Committee structure to help discharge its powers and duties.

The Senate is the main academic body of the University and is responsible for teaching and research. Most of its 200 members are academics but it also includes representatives of the Students’ Union and the Athletic Union. The Senate is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, who is the Head of the University both academically and administratively.

The Court consists of more than 300 members representing stakeholders from local to national institutions. It meets annually to discuss the University’s Annual Report, its financial statements and issues in higher education Technocamps is based at Swansea University's Singleton Campus and is lead by the Director of Technocamps, Professor Faron Moller, who reports to the Faculty of Computer Science which sits within the Faculty of Science and Engineering within the University.

The Programme Director is supported by the Universities around Wales and a wide range of stakeholders. The stakeholders meet every 8 months to discuss the direction of the Programme and to ensure our mission, vision, and values are being upheld and to discuss future strategic directions for the Programme.
