Technocamps has been awarded a STEM Inspiration Award in recognition of its outreach work across Wales.

Technocamps has been selected as a winner for a STEM Inspiration Award in the Outstanding Contribution to Widening Participation, Diversity and Inclusion in STEM category. This category recognises individuals, groups, organisations and companies who have encouraged diversity and inclusion within STEM.

Technocamps is a pan-Wales schools, community and industry outreach programme based at Swansea University with hubs in every University across Wales. It is privileged to be among innovative companies, projects, and individuals winning this year’s highly anticipated awards, which celebrate those championing and making a difference to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) in Wales.

Technocamps’ traditional activity concentrates on providing hands-on workshops to secondary schools to encourage the take-up of computing and STEM subjects at GCSE and A-level and beyond. Its Playground Computing programme works with primary schools to counter the recognised problem of specific groups of young people – particularly girls – disengaging with STEM subjects in the transition period between primary and secondary. These activities, alongside Technocamps’ creative ways of engaging young people in STEM virtually throughout the pandemic, has been recognised with this award.

The nominations were considered by an industry-leading panel of Welsh entrepreneurial minds, with the national awards ceremony taking place in Cardiff on 25 May 2022.

Professor Faron Moller, Director of Technocamps, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award. Having been considered alongside some of the most amazing initiatives in the country is humbling, and we are delighted to have the recognition for the hard work that we do.”
