Technocamps’ WiST events are aimed at women in the technology sector (or with a keen interest in the industry) to learn from other inspirational women and network with like-minded people. All events are entirely free thanks to funding support from the Welsh Government’s European Social Fund.
Girls are underrepresented in STEM industries, and Technocamps aims to redress the balance by offering clubs and seminars exclusively to girls. In this way, it aims to reach girls who have not previously considered STEM as an option, and encourage them towards careers in STEM.
In this informal webinar, Elizabeth Marshall, STEM Subject Matter Expert for No. 3 Welsh Wing of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, will discuss how to get young people (especially girls) enthused about Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
As a non-scientist with no teaching qualifications and with no military background, Elizabeth has come into a uniformed organisation which has no appreciable history of collaborative working with young people in STEM subjects. She is passionate about getting young people interested in STEM and wants to share her expertise in this area. With a very male- dominated senior management structure, and an acknowledged need for suitably qualified people to come into a particularly unique workforce, Elizabeth can speak to the hearts of women with similar experiences.
