Our project has recently teamed up with the Seren Network to help encourage and inspire the next generation of technological superstars.
The goal of the Wales-wide Seren (Foundation) Network is to stretch and challenge young people, raising their career aspirations and giving them opportunities to progress regardless of their financial background. Seren works with secondary-aged pupils, helping them to see a future for themselves beyond their individual, family, and financial circumstances.
Technocamps works closely with the network in South Wales providing workshops and STEM masterclasses at weekends and in after school sessions. While this is a relatively new initiative, we have already ‘graduated’ our first cohort from Neath and Port Talbot schools, to be followed closely by a group from Swansea schools in the early Spring of 2020.
The sessions have really stretched the most able and talented pupils. They are designed to enhance their understanding of how computer science underpins many of the things we take for granted in everyday lives. It has been particularly pleasing to see many of the pupils taking on the challenge of extension work set by our Delivery Officers, to further their knowledge and under- standing beyond the classroom-based environment.
“The session was very interesting and I learned about things I didn’t know existed. I will definitely be teaching our youngest daughter about coding and why it is so important.”
